Volunteer Resources

In addition to United Way’s own Volunteer Tampa Bay Web site, the following Web sites contain excellent information about volunteerism locally and beyond.

Points of Light Foundation | Click Here |
The Points of Light Foundation & Volunteer Center National Network engages and mobilizes millions of volunteers who are helping to solve serious social problems in thousands of communities. Through a variety of programs and services, the Foundation encourages people from all walks of life — businesses, nonprofits, faith-based organizations, low-income communities, families, youth, and older adults — to volunteer.

Hands On Network | Click Here |
Hands On Network brings people together to strengthen communities through meaningful volunteer action. We are a growing network of more than one million volunteers changing communities inside and outside the United States. Hands On Network creates and manages nearly 50,000 projects a year, from building wheelchair ramps in San Francisco to teaching reading in Atlanta, to rebuilding homes and lives in the Gulf coast communities.

America's Promise | Click Here |
America’s Promise—The Alliance for Youth was founded after the Presidents’ Summit for America’s Future in 1997, where Presidents Bush, Carter, Clinton, and Ford—with Nancy Reagan representing Ronald Reagan—challenged the nation to make children and youth a national priority. President George W. Bush reaffirmed that commitment in 2001.

Retired Gen. Colin L. Powell became America’s Promise founding chairman serving in that capacity until 2001. The mission of America’s Promise is to strengthen the character and competence of America’s youth.

America’s Promise is an Alliance that brings together communities, individuals, companies and organizations from all sectors to improve the odds for children and youth. Members of this Alliance work together to:

  • Change the public policies affecting children and youth
  • Change the scale and scope of resources devoted to helping young people achieve their full potential
  • Change practice in the way that young people are served

National Mentoring Partnership | Click Here |
For more than a decade, MENTOR/National Mentoring Partnership has been working to expand the world of quality mentoring. MENTOR believes that, with the help and guidance of an adult mentor, each child can discover how to unlock and achieve his or her potential. MENTOR is widely acknowledged as the nation's premier advocate and resource for the expansion of mentoring initiatives nationwide. As such, MENTOR works with a strong network of State and Local Mentoring Partnerships to leverage resources and provide the support and tools that mentoring organizations need to effectively serve young people in their communities.

The Florida Mentoring Partnership | Click Here |
The Florida Mentoring Partnership, in keeping with the state's pledge to America's Promise, helps students excel in school and life by recruiting Floridians to become mentors. This partnership, which began as the Governor's Mentoring Initiative in 1999, promotes collaboration among state agencies, municipalities, businesses, nonprofit organizations, individuals and schools. The Partnership has formed an advocacy council that will work to keep mentoring at the forefront of state policy and statewide practice

Volunteer Florida | Click Here |
Volunteer Florida believes that "strengthening Florida's communities through volunteerism and service" is not just a mission statement; it's a way of life. Now, more than ever, Floridians of all ages are ready to answer the call and lend a hand in their local communities.

Our 25 Governor appointed Commissioners lead the way for Volunteer Florida by helping to develop, promote and implement volunteerism and service throughout the state. Because of their hard work and the dedication of our partners, Floridians are stepping up to the plate and volunteerism is on the rise.
