GET CHECKING™ is designed for people who currently do not have a checking account with a financial institution. Maybe you have never had an account and do not know how to start. Maybe you have had problems with an account in the past that is making it difficult to open an account now.

GET CHECKING™ offers you the opportunity to open an account with a participating financial institution even if you have had problems in the past.

Having an account is:

• Safer
• More convenient
• Less expensive
• A way to access other financial services, like loans and credit

What you will learn!
How to choose an account that is right for you, including:Low cost checking options

• How to avoid costly fees
• What you need to know to keep your checking account in balance.
• How your account relationship can help you establish credit and access other services.

After you take the course
Once you have completed the GET CHECKING™ class, you will receive a certificate. To open your account, take your certificate and all proper identification to a participating financial institution.

Note: If you have outstanding fees from a prior account, you must settle that account before opening a new one. Institutions are not required to open an account if there has been evidence of fraud on a prior account.

How to register

1. Select a GET CHECKING™ class convenient for you. See class schedule below.

2. Complete the registration form. You can download it here.

3. Prepare payment in the amount of $30 per person or $45 per couple.

(All fees are non-refundable and must be received by the registration deadline. A money order or cashiers check made payable to: “United Way of Tampa Bay” is the only method of payment accepted. No payments are accepted in class.)

4. Mail or deliver your completed registration form and payment to the address below. If you register online, you will get an email confirmation of your registration. Print it out and mail it with your payment to the address above.
