Literacy Resources

Site with information on key higher education issues, research and programs. Includes a a one-stop shop for prospective General Educational Development (GED) test-takers that has details on finding local programs, testing, sample test questions, GED statistics and publications to prepare for the tests.

Web site with current information about U.S. literacy programs. Includes a searchable database of reading, writing, math, GED and English as a Second Language (ESL) programs.

Site with information about literacy programs, publications and links to other literacy sites.

Site dedicated to connecting people to adult GED and workforce preparation tools. The site uses video, the Internet and print materials to support individual learners, adult instructional programs and the workforce.

Site that includes reports on national adult literacy trends, historical data, a “Frequently Asked Questions” section and links to additional literacy publications and resources.

Site dedicated to providing literacy programs and services to disadvantaged families. Includes information on NCFL’s resources, educational tools, annual conferences and training opportunities.

Federal web site dedicated to improving adult literacy. A great place for researching literacy, as it offers links to local and national literacy programs, a “Frequently Asked Questions” section and information on literacy grants, studies and publications. NIFL also has a hotline (800-228-8813) staffed by English and Spanish-speaking operators.

U.S. Department of Education’s web site that includes national literacy research, information on literacy grants and programs and links to other literacy resources.

World’s oldest, largest private literacy organization. ProLiteracy sponsors educational programs for people to become literate and gain the skills needed to function more effectively. Site allows users to search for local literacy programs.
